About

Born in 1961 to artistically inclined parents, Oliver Koehn was encouraged to draw and paint from an early age. His siblings enjoyed the same advantage, each having grown up with a passion to express themselves in one form of art or another, and two having chosen art-related careers. In Oliver this passion simmered quietly until 2007, when a confrontation with mortality brought out for him the truth that dreams count for nothing, if they are not realised. Since then he has painted more seriously and has started to share it with others.

Finding pleasure in the richness of textures, patterns and plays of light in the natural environment, particularly in forests and other Australian landscapes, much of Oliver’s art seeks to focus on, and sometimes to exaggerate these things.

Other works represent stages of his search for truth and meaning in the world. These works he invites viewers to interpret how they will, in recognition of the infinite variations in the journey of individuals towards wholeness and wisdom.

Oliver’s first solo exhibition was hosted by the Legal Services Commission of South Australiain in May 2008, with a majority of works being sold.

This was followed in November 2008 by an exhibition held jointly with Oliver’s photographer wife, Malinda-Ro Koehn, at the Tea Tree Gully Library near Adelaide.

His most recent major exhibition was in June 2009, at the Golden Grove Arts Centre, also near Adelaide. On that occasion Oliver joined Malinda-Ro and an emerging sculptor, Karl Beer in exhibiting 32 paintings in a variety of mediums.

Fired on by the success of these exhibitions, Oliver is preparing for others. Please visit his Coming events page for details of his next exhibition.
